Diabetes is one of the leading health issues these days that most of the population is going through. The worst thing about diabetes is that it is one of that disorders that can never be treated permanently so you have to stay on medication forever. Diabetes is of two types Type I diabetes and Type II diabetes. In Type I the patient is completely dependent on the insulin while in Type II the patient takes oral medication but if needed they also eventually have to get to the insulin.
Insulins are by far the best way to control diabetes, especially in patients who have high blood glucose levels. Insulin is also the one that is used in the emergency management of very high blood glucose levels and to keep the blood glucose levels in the body the insulins play a major role. Maintenance of normal level is very important and that makes the insulins and their knowledge equally important. Different brands of insulins are available in the market and this Humalog vs. Novolog comparison will give us knowledge about insulins
Humalog and Novolog
Humalog and Novolog are the brand names of two different insulins Humalog is the brand name for the insulin lispro and the Novolog is the brand name of the insulin aspart. Both of the insulins as told before are used to control Type I and Type II diabetes. The similarity between these two insulins is that they both are rapid-acting insulins which means that their onset is fast and the duration of action is short too.
All of this means that they work quickly as compared to the intermediate-acting and the long-acting insulins. Your doctor will prescribe you an insulin that works for your blood glucose level fluctuation throughout the day and so the fact that your doctor will prescribe these or not depends on your insulin level too. Mostly the rapid-acting insulins are prescribed as a bolus dose before meal use.
They are injected into the body 15 minutes earlier your meal and this will be able to control your glucose levels that increase after mealtime. Rapid-acting insulins including these two start acting within 15 minutes and after injecting them you must take the meal in a short time or you might face hypoglycemia.
Differences in Humalog and Novolog
Novolog and Humalog are both alike in many ways but there are some differences between them too Novolog can be taken by adults and children above 2 years old win both type I and Type I diabetes. On the other hand, Humalog can be used in adults with type I diabetes and is not studied yet for children under 3 years and it is also sometimes suggested for adults with type II diabetes.
Another difference is that Novolog acts faster than Humalog and where Humalog is taken 15 minutes before a meal h Novolog shall be taken just before a meal like in 5 to 10 minutes because it acts faster. Another thing that is different between Humalog and Novolog is that Novolog can be diluted if your dose needs to be changed and it is diluted in the Novolog dilution liquid.
So that wall about Novolog and Humalog.
